Minimal Monthly

Hello, hello!

It's funny how a pleasant three-second interaction can sweeten your whole day.

I recently read about a professional who had a simple but powerful approach to her workplace relationships: she ended every interaction, no matter how challenging, with a genuine, positive note about the other person.

You can already guess the outcome. People felt good after speaking to her. And because people remember feelings, she was highly regarded across her entire company, from the C-suite to the mail room.

When we approach our spaces and the people with whom we share them with sincere positivity, everything just kinda flows better. Maybe that same principle can be applied to daily housework, too. End each tidying session by acknowledging something positive like how much better the drawer slides now, or how tomorrow morning will be smoother because everything's ready to go. Makes it easier to maintain progress.

I want to plug Setapp this month because it's a terrific value if you're in the Apple ecosystem. You get access to 250 apps for ten bucks a month, and there are a ton of really good ones to choose from. My faves atm are Cleanshot X, Soulver, MindNode, TextSniper, Cleanmymac ... I could go on.

Even though I hate subscriptions with a passion, this one is very good!

  • Move over quiet luxury, neo luxury is on the rise. Loud designs are making a comeback after years of minimalism. Sustainability is still top of mind though, while AR, blockchain and AI are transforming how shoppers discover and personalise high-end goods. Huh, what? Showbiz Journal has an interesting run-down on the latest trends.
  • Absolutely not luxurious on the other hand is scrubbing the bathroom. Better Homes and Gardens has you covered with their top tips for keeping tile flooring and grout looking good.
  • I like the black kitchen in this German influencer's rental apartment, a maisonette furnished in neutral tones with a lot of white space.
  • Affordihome hunts down really incredible properties in Europe and they drop their finds on X multiple times a week. If you like browsing real estate for funsies, they're worth a follow.
  • I got sucked into my feed after the last link, and these dogs in the pool killed me πŸΆπŸŽΎπŸ˜…

Couldn't make this up if I tried. Here's what went down along with both my cable and mobile carriers' full outage. Spoiler: I think the internet has warped our sense of time!

A common symptom of a bad depression is being unable to keep up with housework. Picking one tiny thing or area to tidy up helps build momentum and feel a bit better.

September 2025 Minimal Monthly Hello, hello! This month I kept circling the idea of control and release. One big spark came from a cult classic film that critics call one of the greatest movies ever made, though few people outside cinephile circles may have heard of it: Jeanne Dielman, 23 quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles (1975). It follows a widowed mother through three and a half hours of painfully quiet domestic routine: peeling potatoes, running errands, polishing spoons, and switching...

August 2025 Minimal Monthly Hello, hello! I had such grand plans to tackle the cellar this summer. Spoiler alert: it didn't happen. But you know what did? I finally got around to photographing a few more handbags from my ridiculous collection for consignment. It's one of those tasks that takes 20 minutes but somehow lives on the to-do list for months. Sometimes 'good enough' progress is exactly that: good enough. That theme continued for the rest of the month. With my day job being busy, all...

June 2025 Minimal Monthly Hello, hello! I've been on another one of my massive purges the past couple of weeks, and made more progress in my year-long Swedish death cleaning roadmap, woot. It started innocently enough one Saturday afternoon. I had to reconfigure a Sonos speaker sitting on my little trolley of office supplies. Then I noticed the trolley was all dusty. When I started dusting, I realised a lot of it can go. That sparked a big paperwork shredding session. Then I decided to let go...
