Minimal Monthly
Hello, hello!
This month I kept circling the idea of control and release.
One big spark came from a cult classic film that critics call one of the greatest movies ever made, though few people outside cinephile circles may have heard of it: Jeanne Dielman, 23 quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles (1975).
It follows a widowed mother through three and a half hours of painfully quiet domestic routine: peeling potatoes, running errands, polishing spoons, and switching very many lights on and off. Nothing โhappensโ (which is, historically speaking, so poignantly reflective of a woman's existence), and when her rhythm falters, the tension becomes unbearable.

This film haunted me for days afterward and still sits deep. It made me think about how much of our own organising frenzy is less about tidy cupboards and more about the need to feel in control. To maintain agency. To cope.
If you'd like to watch it, you can do so for free at the Internet Archive. There is very little speaking in it, but I found a version with English subtitles.
Meanwhile, my own home life tilted toward release. I sent off another few hundred books and CDs for resale this month, and pretty much have the process down to muscle memory: scan the ISBNs, box them up, ship them out. Painless, profitable, and oddly calming. A small system that kinda runs itself while creating space.
Sometimes control matters. Sometimes letting go does more.

The weather's cooling down and you know what that means: cold and flu season is around the corner. I always keep vitamin C, zinc and echinacea on hand, and iHerb is my go-to for all things supplements. They deliver super fast worldwide, and also have a good beauty section! ๐

If you only watched one piece of political commentary about the abhorrent event of this month, I sure as heck hope it was Amir Odom, because he's the only one out there who has his head screwed on right.
The clichรฉ red convertible, a fancy kitchen remodel or other big-ticket purchases are common at midlife. Why do we do it? And what are the alternatives?
I like to think of minimalism as an ongoing, practical method of self-optimisation. Here's a what's what for beginners getting into intentional living.

August 2025 Minimal Monthly Hello, hello! I had such grand plans to tackle the cellar this summer. Spoiler alert: it didn't happen. But you know what did? I finally got around to photographing a few more handbags from my ridiculous collection for consignment. It's one of those tasks that takes 20 minutes but somehow lives on the to-do list for months. Sometimes 'good enough' progress is exactly that: good enough. That theme continued for the rest of the month. With my day job being busy, all...
July 2025 Minimal Monthly Hello, hello! It's funny how a pleasant three-second interaction can sweeten your whole day. I recently read about a professional who had a simple but powerful approach to her workplace relationships: she ended every interaction, no matter how challenging, with a genuine, positive note about the other person. You can already guess the outcome. People felt good after speaking to her. And because people remember feelings, she was highly regarded across her entire...
June 2025 Minimal Monthly Hello, hello! I've been on another one of my massive purges the past couple of weeks, and made more progress in my year-long Swedish death cleaning roadmap, woot. It started innocently enough one Saturday afternoon. I had to reconfigure a Sonos speaker sitting on my little trolley of office supplies. Then I noticed the trolley was all dusty. When I started dusting, I realised a lot of it can go. That sparked a big paperwork shredding session. Then I decided to let go...
