02/26 Minimal Monthly — How to Make 2026 Feel Longer

February 2026

Minimal Monthly

Hello, hello!

My reflection looked me in the eye while I was getting a haircut the other day, and I was startled by how much older I suddenly looked. When did that happen? Where did the time go? My days feel like Groundhog Day. Same routines, same screens, same tasks on repeat. The weeks blur together.

It got me thinking about the Japanese concept of ichi-go ichi-e: 'one time, one meeting,' or the idea that every moment is unique and will never come again. But how can that be true when every day feels like being stuck on repeat?

I read somewhere that adults only remember about 20 days from the previous year. The other 345 days? Gone, for the most part. And that's why it seems to us that time flies by the older we get.

So what makes a day memorable enough to stick? Novelty. New experiences. Breaking patterns. The kind of 'firsts' that filled childhood and made summers feel endless.

Maybe it's possible to slow down time again, at least a little bit, by doing one small new thing every day. Taking a different walking route. Trying an unusual recipe. Having a spontaneous conversation with a stranger. Small breaks in routine help create memory markers.

Minimalism means living more intentionally. So making days count instead of letting them disappear seems apt.

I'm going to think about how to build more 'firsts' into my day-to-day so that when I look back at 2026, the year doesn't feel like it vanished overnight again.

There's still time.

March 2026 Minimal Monthly Hello, hello! First off, someone wrote in last month to ask if I'm on Facebook or Instagram and I'm embarrassed to say I accidentally deleted that email before answering: no, I am not. Any maybe it's good I'm not, because that's two feeds less to deal with! Everything feels like a lot right now. Housing markets tanking, war war war, low-grade panic attacks every time I open the laptop and am confronted with the latest AI doomsday prophesies. Plus my entire condo...

January 2026 Minimal Monthly Hello, hello! January was supposed to be about fresh starts and diving back into organising. Instead, I spent most of it in a bit of a post-vacation slump, buried in mundane website maintenance, staring at screens while the freezing weather kept (and still keeps) me trapped indoors. Grand organising plans? Nada atm. But one thing did click this month: meal prepping! I started spending a couple of hours in the kitchen each weekend, and it's been a big win for me....

December 2025 Minimal Monthly Hello, hello! I'm writing this from vacation, my first proper break in over two years. And here's the weird part: the first five days were kinda miserable. I felt more stressed than when I was working! Restless. Guilty. Totally unable to relax. And then, of course, I got sick. It wasn't until day six that something shifted. I finally started to actually unwind. Turns out this is completely normal. Research has shown it takes about eight days for people to fully...
