Minimal Monthly
Shoutout to everyone who joined from Kitโs creator spotlight. If you're new here, this is Tidymalism's newsletter for fellow simple living and home organising aficionados who appreciate decluttered spaces, less stuff, and the occasional existential crisis in front of a still-overstuffed closet. ๐คช
Hello, hello!
Somehow, the first half of the year is over. I donโt know how that happened again. I was going to make a clever FIFA-adjacent halftime joke here, but the World Cup is still very much in progress, my flat hit 34ยฐ indoors this past weekend, and my brain has been reduced to a warm puddle in this non-air-conditioned heatwave.
So instead, please enjoy this deeply relatable mid-year goals audit:
June was thus survival mode in my neck of the woods. While it was too scorching outside to do any gardening or patio work, I did manage to re-organise the closet, do my usual anti-moth patrol armed with cedar wood and lavender spray, and haul one more donation bag over to the Red Cross. Iโm counting this as meaningful progress because my housekeeping standards otherwise melted in the heat.
Lots of fun stuff in the links this month though! From tiny rooms and tidy interiors to smooching squirrels, tasty tortillas, summer cake, journaling, art experiments, and a cow with some surprisingly good life advice...

Mixed Bag 'o Links
Here comes this month's roundup of stuff I stumbled upon on social media and deemed neat-o:
- Starting with some warm fuzzies, here's video proof that squirrels hug and kiss when they come home. ๐ฟ๏ธ
- Just looking at this guy's clean modern living room decor calmed my nerves. I just love minimal looking, hotel-style interiors.
- If you think your bedroom is tiny and cramped, have one look at this tiny room and I bet you'll immediately feel better about your square footage.
- Also on the Reddit home front, someone posted a highly styled open-shelving setup but all I could think was DUST.
- These planting hacks are just very cool. I already tried out the trick with the kitchen sponge when I did some repotting this month.
- My fave indie maker Marc Lou recently posted his wardrobe online, and he owns hardly any clothing. Wdyt? Could you get by with such a tiny capsule wardrobe?
- On the flip side, if you do have a lot of clothes, maybe you can aspire to this level of aesthetic perfection of obsessively organised Ralph Lauren work socks. Wonder what his drawer of non-work socks looks like. ๐
- Moving on to food: here's a super easy method to make yummy tortillas. ๐
- I also tried the dates soaked in espresso trend this month and can testify that it was indeed a tasty snack with some plain yogurt on the next day.
- If it's not too hot and you're up to baking, here's a wonderful Swedish strawberry cake recipe that makes for a great summer treat.
- And if it is hot and you just want a quiet activity, how about making some art? This YouTuber has a load of creative inspiration: he tried out 30 different art styles in 30 days and the results were just amazing. There's something in here for everyone and pretty much every skill level.
- โJournaling makes you smarter, it's true! Putting a physical pen to paper and writing by hand triggers your brain in ways that typing on a keyboard does not. So write more. And if you don't know where to start, I have some journaling prompts here to get going.
- Finally, some good advice on how to calm down, straight from a cow. ๐ฎ And if you're having a bad day and just need a hug, The Nicest Place has got you.
Enjoy your AC if you have one. If not, I suffer along with you in solidarity ๐
