Minimal Monthly

Hello, hello!

First off, someone wrote in last month to ask if I'm on Facebook or Instagram and I'm embarrassed to say I accidentally deleted that email before answering: no, I am not. Any maybe it's good I'm not, because that's two feeds less to deal with!

Everything feels like a lot right now. Housing markets tanking, war war war, low-grade panic attacks every time I open the laptop and am confronted with the latest AI doomsday prophesies. Plus my entire condo still needs a paint job I absolutely dread, and how on earth did my Tupperware get out of control again, does it procreate in the back of the cabinet during winter or what?

When the big picture feels this chaotic and uncertain, it's easy to freeze up completely and escape into doomscrolling. Bad for me, but good for you because this month's letter has a ton of cool links below!

If you've been eyeballing a Dyson for awhile but were always put off by the price tag, their V8 model is on sale today for 39% off. I'm a big fan of their products because of how well they perform and how long they last. The cordless Dyson V8 is cool because it functions as a hand-held when you need it to, and even has an integrated hair detangler!

Mixed Bag 'o Links

This month’s link-o-rama features home design inspiration, fitspo for the gents, loads of digital minimalism, and a little bit of Granite State nostalgia for my New England homies ;)

  • A Reddit peek into an interior designer's very first kitchen project: she shared some actionable tips like mixing unlacquered brass with polished nickel to elevate the space, and swapping trendy open shelving for proper storage with reeded glass.
  • If you're looking to add a serious punch of colour and texture to a room, these handmade floral rugs on Etsy are stunning! 😍 They lean heavily into maximalism and would make a brilliant, joyful focal point in a pared-back space.
  • Speaking of interiors, it seems the "marshmallow" furniture trend is making a comeback. Elle Decor took a look at these fun chunky, rounded pieces. I'm usually one for clean lines, but I have to admit there is something very inviting about a sofa that looks like a giant cloud.
  • This one was a bit of a nostalgic laugh for me. Having spent part of my childhood in the Granite State, I have memories of my parents stocking up at the iconic NH Liquor & Wine outlet (if you know, you know). This short video features a Gen-X salesperson showing off the store's assortment, but delivering the whole tour in deadpan Gen-Z speak. It's an absolute riot. πŸ˜‚
  • If you struggle with mindless scrolling, the Stepkey app is a rather clever approach to digital minimalism. It physically ties your screen time to your step count, meaning you literally cannot doomscroll unless you are out for a walk. A clever way to force yourself to get moving.
  • In a similar vein, if you find yourself mindlessly reaching for your phone despite your best intentions, Brick might be the answer. It's a clever little physical device that blocks distracting apps on your phone with a simple tap. It adds just enough physical friction to stop a doomscrolling session before it even starts.
  • Locked in: this tranquil jazz livestream started autoplaying one afternoon when I had finished listening to a video. Poofdiwupp, three hours later it had gotten dark outside, the music was still playing and I had gotten so. much. work. done and not even noticed how hardcore into the flow I was. Amazing. It's probably an AI-generated loop but I honestly don't care and I'm listening to it again as I write this. πŸ˜…
  • Making the decision to downsize is rarely easy, especially when you are deeply attached to a family home. This video from Rita Wilkins tackles a question many baby boomers are wrestling with right now: "What if I regret letting go of my house?" Rita offers a thoughtful perspective on navigating that emotional transition.
  • On a related note, if the kids have finally moved out but you aren't ready to sell yet, the Wall Street Journal has a great piece, Three Ways for Empty Nesters to Reclaim Their Home, with some nice before and after, top to floor inspiration.
  • If you love a perfectly organised drawer, this short clip will make you drool: Caimar Salizi makes his own custom organisational trays in his 3D printing studio. It's incredibly satisfying to watch everything fit exactly into place. And boy oh boy, do I want a 3D printer now!
  • Who would have thought I'd be taking digital detox tips from the legendary gaming YouTuber PewDiePie? But, alas! Even PewDie is getting older and he recently dropped a little ditty titled I Fixed YouTube ! about intentional digital living. He goes over how he filtered out algorithmic distractions by de-shorting the feed and reclaiming his attention.
  • David Lane on Substack walks us through the five key pieces he would get if he were building his wardrobe completely from scratch. Lots of outfit inspo eye candy in here, guys!

Ok Q2, bring on the daffodils. 🌼

Thank you for reading. If you have any comments, feedback, or would like to be featured in an upcoming issue, hit reply and drop me a line.

Have a great month ahead,

May 2026 Minimal Monthly Hello, hello! May felt like the first real exhale of the year. The weather finally turned and I had some extra breathing room what with hardly any contract work all month. Wound up spending more time outside cleaning the terraces and weeding, rather than stressing about any indoor to-dos. The universe also gave me a nudge: my ex visited, sat down in one of my patio chairs and it literally snapped clean in half. Mortifying. The next day I sat in the other one and it...

April 2026 Minimal Monthly Hello, hello! Spring got off to a very cold start this year but now it's time to finally switch out the daily gear in the entryway. While I was steaming the winter coats and jackets before putting them away properly, I had this weird thought: I don't want any of this anymore. Not the coats. Just everything. Everything that needs maintaining, insuring, weeding, cleaning, ironing, steaming, polishing, rotating. The whole darn house. As the years wear on, I'm growing...

February 2026 Minimal Monthly Hello, hello! My reflection looked me in the eye while I was getting a haircut the other day, and I was startled by how much older I suddenly looked. When did that happen? Where did the time go? My days feel like Groundhog Day. Same routines, same screens, same tasks on repeat. The weeks blur together. It got me thinking about the Japanese concept of ichi-go ichi-e: 'one time, one meeting,' or the idea that every moment is unique and will never come again. But...
