05/25 Minimal Monthly — A Little Prompt Goes a Long Way

May 2025

Minimal Monthly

Hello, hello!

AI is everywhere, ok, but have you tried it for organising? I’m always experimenting with small ways to make life simpler. This month, I discovered a surprisingly useful prompt that turns your GPT into a personal tidy-up coach. Upload a photo, get an organising plan. That’s it. Here’s how it works:

1. Take a clear photo or screenshot of the space or digital mess you want to tidy.

2. Open ChatGPT and upload your image.

3. Paste this into the chat:

I’ve uploaded an image. First, tell me what you see. Then suggest a simpler, more maintainable way to organise it. Include a step-by-step plan or grouping system if possible. Tell me if you spot any other opportunities to rethink how this space or setup could be used or optimised.

4. Hit send and get your plan.

This works when you're stuck deciding how to start tackling junk drawers, the coat closet, or your cloud storage folder because it provides structure, a different perspective, and a non-judgemental nudge in the right direction.

Of course, you’ll still have to do the actual tidying yourself (for now?). But hey, with a plan and some fresh ideas, that step is suddenly a lot easier.

Heck, I'm just gonna roll with the tech theme this month. Next up:

Unsponsored Shoutout

Longstanding readers may recall what I actually do for a living. Last year I worked with Xenodium on the German localization of a little Mac utility called Fresh Eyes (great for avoiding eye strain at the computer). I stayed in touch with indie dev Álvaro Ramírez ever since.

One of his other apps, Journelly, started picking up good press lately and I think some of you might actually love it. It's perfect for private notes, lists, journalling, collecting recipes, you name it. Journelly version 1.1 just rolled out with a bunch of improvements. Check it out if you're on MacOS or iOS.

  • Interior design challenge: what would you do with this odd platform if it were in your kitchen? "Hear ye, hear ye! Dinner is served!" 🤔
  • Oldie but goodie Ted Talk: what was the most story-like moment of your day? You had one! We all have them. Matthew Dicks on finding the small stories of your life.
  • "If you cling to possessions, others are tempted to steal." Rick Rubin dropped The Way of Code the other week and even if you're not into vibe coding, there are some wonderfully universal nuggets of Stoicism in here.
  • If you are into vibe coding, I sure hope you've tested Claude 4 because it is very wow. Use the Opus model. And my referral link please, because I'm keen on winning one of the Max subscriptions they're giving away. 🤖
  • It's only May but this lady qualifies for spouse of the year if you ask me.
  • I've been reading Penelope Trunk in one form or another for close to two decades. Tiny Kindnesses Can Save a Childhood moved me in a way I'm not articulate enough to express. Not just the story, but the way she describes how we start remembering things when we hit older age.
  • One more interior that caught my eye over on Reddit. Less because of the interior and more because of the dog. That is one cute, cute dog.

Happy June! ✨

Thank you for reading. If you have any comments, feedback, or would like to be featured in an upcoming issue, hit reply and drop me a line.

November 2025 Minimal Monthly Hello, hello! Outside of tidy-land, I've been on a gov contract this whole year. It ends in four days. I should be celebrating, but I'm too exhausted to feel anything what with not having had a day off since last New Year's. Now that the finish line is finally here, I kinda want to collapse. Burnout rates generally tend to be high in November and December, the exact time when things get even crazier as the holiday season begins. What I'm looking forward to after...

Woman painting front door of apartment

October 2025 Minimal Monthly Hello, hello! I need to repaint my condo and put in new baseboards. I've needed to do this for awhile already. But every time I think about it, I'm paralysed by the sheer logistics of clearing out every room, moving furniture, protecting surfaces, and acting as project manager for the whole thing... The dread is so real that I've actually caught myself browsing real estate listings lately, thinking 'Maybe it would be easier to just move?' (I know. I KNOW. 😅) Then...

Jeanne Dielman

September 2025 Minimal Monthly Hello, hello! This month I kept circling the idea of control and release. One big spark came from a cult classic film that critics call one of the greatest movies ever made, though few people outside cinephile circles may have heard of it: Jeanne Dielman, 23 quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles (1975). It follows a widowed mother through three and a half hours of painfully quiet domestic routine: peeling potatoes, running errands, polishing spoons, and switching...
