03/25 Minimal Monthly — The Body-Home Connection

March 2025

Minimal Monthly

Well hello!

Does feeling physically 'off' ever completely derail your housekeeping? I had a painful reminder of this connection the other week after managing to spectacularly pull my back out yet once again (highly do not recommend).

Suddenly, the desire to keep up with everything was completely overshadowed by the effort required to simply move without bawling from the pain.

The whole episode highlighted how much our physical state dictates our capacity for household organising in the first place. It's not always about willpower or time management or motivation; sometimes, it's literally about whether we can bend, lift, or reach without pain.

Acknowledging this link between body and home can actually take some pressure off, don't you think? And perhaps focusing on feeling better physically is the real first step to a tidier space.

Friend Spotlight

An unpaid personal recommendation: My friends across the pond at Kur Wellness Studio in Asbury Park, New Jersey are teaming up with Indra Holistic Health to create their first-ever online course. While they're putting the finishing touches on their collab, you can join their waitlist and receive an immediate bonus.

Sign up today and you'll get their free Ayurveda guide with practical tips for optimising digestion and feeling good after meals. Waitlist members also receive exclusive free content as the course launch approaches.

I've visited Kur many times during my trips to the US and have seen firsthand the care and expertise they bring to wellness. Happy to see them starting to expand their reach online!

  • Est Living is my latest design obsession: a global resource showcasing some gorgeous architecture, interiors, and products. Click "Explore by Space" for design inspo. Their curated content spans countries and designers both established and emerging.
  • Possibly the most precarious toilet ever. Honestly, it gives me performance anxiety just looking at it. 😅
  • While catch-up contributions are helpful for those over 50, relying too heavily on late-stage retirement saving has its pitfalls. Further has some practical advice in this article.
  • Digital Hygiene 101: Andrej Karpathy (former AI director at Tesla) wrote a super helpful blog post with simple tips to dramatically improve your digital privacy and security. From password managers to two-factor authentication, it's a practical guide to keeping your digital life secure without going full-on tinfoil hat.
  • If you thought your place was tight on space, at least you're not bunking it over the bathtub.
  • Balance is the most underrated key to longevity, says Jakob from Move or Die. Here are five mobility exercises for those who dare!
  • This short, award-winning German film I discovered via Penelope Trunk offers a sobering look at the trend of parents pushing their kids into becoming social media stars. Or even just sharing their underage children's lives online. A thought-provoking 20-min. watch (subtitles available).
  • Lastly, some dream homes to drool over. I may or may not have spent an embarrassing amount of time virtually touring these properties: an astonishingly affordable mid-century stunner in Barrington, Illinois and, this big-budget beauty in Bridgehampton, New York. Swoon.

Have a good one! ✨

Can You Opt-In to Happiness?

I think you can. But don't listen to me. Here's what the Stoics had to say about the matter. And why choosing happiness might even be considered our moral obligation.

household robot cooking dinner

February 2025 Minimal Monthly Hello, hello! Picture this: a tall silver figure gliding through your home. Maybe sweeping the patio, scrubbing the loo, weeding the garden or even organising your spice rack. All while you sip a cuppa and admire your tidy haven. Humanoid robots like Tesla’s Optimus might just make that fantasy real. Pegged to retail at around $20-30K, they could be designed to tackle chores and beyond. The plan? Limited factory runs later this year, B2B sales by 2026, and,...

A view of the city of los angeles from the top of a hill

January 2025 Minimal Monthly Hello, hello! During the raging fire earlier this month, a woman from L.A. wrote in to me, asking about a picture of some metal bento boxes she had seen on Tidymalism. She was putting together a bug-out bag in case she had to be evacuated. She struck me as being incredibly calm. I had a hard time finding the right words to respond to her in such a situation, but I let her know where I found the steel boxes and wished her good luck. I hope she's okay. I hope you're...

A firework display in the night sky over a body of water

December 2024 Minimal Monthly Hi Reader, Wow. 2024 blew by fast. As the year winds down, I’ve been thinking about how easy it is to get caught up in planning, learning, and gathering inspiration—but then sometimes we don't get around to taking action. This morning, I opened up my battered copy of the Daily Stoic to this passage from Marcus Aurelius. It feels like the perfect closing thought for the year: Great little book btw. It’s a reminder that fresh starts don’t come from empty hopes or...
