Minimal Monthly

Hello, hello!

Funny how certain home maintenance tasks become routine, while others completely fly under the radar...

Oh, heck.

I was about to write a whole ode to mattress hoovering but my heart isn't in spring cleaning today.

The truth is, I've been reflecting on sustainability lately. Not environmental sustainability, but the sustainability of our digital lives and creative endeavours. Algorithms change overnight, search engines now serve AI answers, and platforms like Pinterest are pivoting without warning. Sometimes the effort-to-reward ratio gets completely out of whack, and this is one of those times.

I'm guessing many of you can relate to this feeling in some area of your life. A project, habit, or commitment that once felt energising may now feel like you're pushing a boulder uphill.

Sometimes persistence is valuable; other times, it's worth questioning whether our energy might be better directed elsewhere. I'm at that crossroad right now, about two seconds out from either turning left, or turning right. Flip a coin. Maybe it doesn't even matter either way.

I'm not abandoning the Tidymalism ship entirely, just putting my time into finishing a long-overdue project instead of writing more blog content to feed yet more AI crawlers with.

Perhaps that's the most honest tidying advice I can offer this month: regularly assess what deserves your limited time and attention, and don't be afraid to adjust course when needed.

Vacuuming your mattress is also a good idea. Who knew humans shed 2g of skin cells every night?!

I'd Buy This Again

IMHO this is the best darn little hoover (affiliate link) all around. I've had my Dyson handheld for 11 years and it's still in fantastic condition. 10/10.

  • Need to hide your unemployment from family members? Look busy at work? Or just prevent people from barging in on you while you watch a movie on your headphones? Turn this video on. Trust. (The comments are a hoot, too.)
  • Half Baked is hands down my favourite entrepreneurial newsletter. They drop a free daily dose of inspiration, business ideas, trends, and memes for the entrepreneurially-minded Mon. to Fri. It's short, sweet, and funny. Subscribe here if you're looking for new ideas.
  • We have entered the age of our own extinction. This NYT opinion piece eloquently lays out why conservative values are imperative for our survival as a species.
  • Yes, I'm still obsessed with squats (or confounded by my ongoing inability to fully do them). I found this lady via Pinterest and she does a great job of demonstrating proper squat form, one of the most fundamental human movements we've largely abandoned in our chair-bound modern lives.
  • A 3D-printed home? Um, sure, if it looks this good! These gorgeous abodes are being built in a few different locations in Texas. I'm really into the tubular look of the walls and façade 😍
  • A random music video: Paul McCartney & Wings performing Live and Let Die in 1976. As one commenter put it: "one of the greatest songs written for a movie."

Have a good one! ✨

Thank you for reading. If you have any comments, feedback, or would like to be featured in an upcoming issue, hit reply and drop me a line.

Have a great month ahead,

Summer's right around the corner. This checklist includes a bunch of home maintenance tasks to get your place shipshape both indoors and out before the heat kicks in.

Wardrobe Audit

I used to shop as a hobby. (I know, 😬). These are the five guidelines I set for myself that helped me curb the retail therapy and develop more mindful shopping habits.

May 2025 Minimal Monthly Hello, hello! AI is everywhere, ok, but have you tried it for organising? I’m always experimenting with small ways to make life simpler. This month, I discovered a surprisingly useful prompt that turns your GPT into a personal tidy-up coach. Upload a photo, get an organising plan. That’s it. Here’s how it works: 1. Take a clear photo or screenshot of the space or digital mess you want to tidy. 2. Open ChatGPT and upload your image. 3. Paste this into the chat: I’ve...

woman planking on the grass from springtime fatigue

March 2025 Minimal Monthly Well hello! Does feeling physically 'off' ever completely derail your housekeeping? I had a painful reminder of this connection the other week after managing to spectacularly pull my back out yet once again (highly do not recommend). Suddenly, the desire to keep up with everything was completely overshadowed by the effort required to simply move without bawling from the pain. The whole episode highlighted how much our physical state dictates our capacity for...

February 2025 Minimal Monthly Hello, hello! Picture this: a tall silver figure gliding through your home. Maybe sweeping the patio, scrubbing the loo, weeding the garden or even organising your spice rack. All while you sip a cuppa and admire your tidy haven. Humanoid robots like Tesla’s Optimus might just make that fantasy real. Pegged to retail at around $20-30K, they could be designed to tackle chores and beyond. The plan? Limited factory runs later this year, B2B sales by 2026, and,...
